Source: AWS What’s New
AWS has announced the general availability of OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra on Amazon Bedrock, posted on 26 October 2026. The model expands the GPT-6 family with what AWS describes as a balance of capability, speed, and cost efficiency for everyday workloads, and it is now accessible through the Amazon Bedrock console and supported Bedrock APIs.
What the new model brings
According to the AWS announcement, GPT-6.1 Terra combines detailed visual reasoning, accurate computer use, and improved factuality and natural writing over its predecessor GPT-5.6 Terra. In OpenAI’s Agents’ Last Exam evaluation it scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra, performed on par with GPT-6 Astra, and completed tasks more than three times faster than both GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. AWS also states that input and output token prices are at least 50 percent lower than those of GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-5.6 Terra. The model supports a context window of up to 1 million input tokens and accepts both text and image inputs.
Governance and enterprise controls
Beyond raw performance, the interesting part for enterprise adoption is governance. AWS highlights that established AWS controls help secure workloads, govern access, and audit model invocation activity. Customers can call the model directly through Amazon Bedrock APIs or configure ChatGPT Work and Codex to use the model on Bedrock, for use cases such as drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, investigating codebases, and building agents that operate across business systems.
For European companies, the practical question is not whether to adopt these models but how to do so with proper access control, cost monitoring, and data protection built in from the start.
